Everyone's busy bashing Western medicine right now. I get it. But here's what the takedowns miss: Western medicine didn't fall from the sky as a cold machine. It was born from the plant.
The word the alchemists used was spagyrics, from the Greek for “to separate” and “to recombine.” You took the whole plant apart, purified each piece, and put it back together whole, mineral body and all. Nothing discarded. The essence and the matter, reunited.
Paracelsus, the man we credit as a father of modern toxicology, was doing exactly this in 1538. The father of “the dose makes the poison” was an alchemist. The clinic and the apothecary trace back to the same hand.
Holistic medicine and Western medicine have the same father.
Somewhere along the way we kept the molecule and threw away the plant. Kept the disease and forgot the person. We took the separate and called it the whole method, and quietly skipped the part where you recombine.
That's not two enemies. That's one tradition that lost its own roots.
If this names where you are, the next step is one conversation.
